GREENSBORO— A familiar face will be back home in a Cobras jersey Friday as Carolina welcomes back WR/DB Herb Waters to the organization this week. Waters, who played with Carolina last season, will be in uniform and active for Friday’s game at Columbus (NAL YouTube Channel, 7:00 p.m.) and is a welcome addition to the Cobras’ depth.

“He was a good player for us last year as a defensive back,” head coach Josh Resignalo said. “ This year’s Ironman rules fit perfectly with his abilities, and he is going to be a great addition to us this season.”

A native of Florida City, Florida, Waters played wide receiver for the Miami Hurricanes from 2012-15. Waters amassed 1,534 yards on 99 career receptions along with 9 touchdowns. While a member of the Green Bay Packers practice squad in 2016 Waters was persuaded to switch sides of the ball and play defensive back, making him a lethal weapon in the NAL. Waters also spent time in the Pittsburgh Steelers organization and in the Canadian Football League, most recently in camp with the Montreal Alouettes.

Resignalo went on to state, “He was just released from the CFL but he will always have a home with the Cobras!”

Depth has been one of the trademarks of this season’s edition of the Cobras, and a primary reason the team is 6-1 despite dealing with multiple injuries throughout. The addition of Waters immediately adds a dual threat and an “insurance policy” for the second half of the season.
